Amazing Canon 5d Mark IV – My updated equipment for landscapes and nature Photography
“It’s been a while that I was not giving at my equipment a fresh update”
My Canon 5d Mark II was pretty enough for everything I usually shoot and I never had the necessity to switch to a new body. So during these years I mainly invested my money for lenses and accessories.
Years of evolution in technology, and a lot of years after my switch
to full frame DSLR (I used for years Canon Eos 1v film camera, owned a
20d and, 40d with APS-C sensor) made me reconsider all the new camera
bodies with a full frame sensor actually on the market.

Being an huge fan of landscape photography did not let me notice the Sony mirrorless system, especially the Sony 7rIII and its huge high dynamic range sensor of 42mpx, its impressive stats made me think a lot about switching the entire system I had, browsing for months and throwing on the possible alternative also the new Sony 7III with less resolution but with lot of things that were missing in my 5d Mark II.
But, at first I made different considerations :
- 1-buy a Sony 7RIII, buy an adapter and use my Canon lenses on it. sell all my lenses and start buying native Sony lenses
- 2-buy a Sony 7III, sell all my lenses and start buying native Sony lenses
- 3-wait for the new mirrorless Canon (that hit the market a week ago)
- 4?
Well, now you are asking your self which is the fourth option, the one I chose and the one I’m really satisfied with:
Buying the amazing Canon 5d Mark IV.

Money talking was worth it, I sold my old 5d II, I did not lose all the lenses I had (second option) and in case I kept all my Canon lenses I did not have to buy an adapter. Technically talking beside the fact that the Sony sensor looks better in terms of dynamic range and resolution (RIII) I did not find a good reason to invest all that money for a mirrorless camera. I still think that Canon is a more solid option for who works professionally, 5d settings are always super easy to change and the menu is not an infinite book to browse to find the option you need.

Moreover, the 5d IV has a built-in GPS that is really useful for nature and wildlife photographer and photo archiving, it’s fast, easy to use and I did not have to start over learning all the button configuration and settings I probably will have to buy a new system.
